Outgoing Defence Adviser & Newly-Designated Adviser of British High Commission Pay Courtesies

Colonel Paul Clayton of the British Army, the outgoing Defence Adviser of Colombo-based British High Commission and his incoming successor Colonel Darren Woods of the British Army this afternoon (01) paid courtesies to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu after arriving at the Army Headquarters.

During the cordial interactions, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army extended his heartfelt appreciation to the departing Defence Adviser for his commitment for strengthening diplomatic and military ties during his tenure and simultaneously welcomed the newly-designated Defence Adviser.

They also discussed general matters of concern while recalling bonds of goodwill, cooperation and understanding that prevail between the armed forces of both countries. They also discussed possibilities of further enhancing training programmes for Sri Lankan Army personnel as well as the participation of the armed forces of both countries in different exchange programmes.

The Commander of the Army specially thanked the outgoing Defence Adviser for agreements that were facilitated for the Basic Drill Instructor Course, held at the Sri Lanka Military Academy where British Army experts imparted knowledge on training.

In addition, the outgoing Defence Adviser expressed his gratitude for the cooperation and goodwill extended during his tenure in Sri Lanka and thanked the Army for its sound understanding and brotherhood.

Towards the end of the cordial meeting, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage symbolized the goodwill of the Sri Lanka Army by awarding mementos to the outgoing Defence Adviser and the incoming one. The gestures were reciprocated.
