Outgoing 22nd Commander's Mother Regiment, SLE Bids Farewell to General Mahesh Senanayake

Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) on Friday (23) in a fitting goodbye ceremony at the SLE Regimental Headquarters in Panagoda bade farewell to one of its exemplary Senior Officers, General Mahesh Senanayake, the 22nd Commander of the Army who just retired from the Army after a distinguished career of more than 35 years of service.

His mother Regiment, on his arrival greeted General Mahesh Senanayake in a formal Guard Turnout before he was warmly received by Major General Jagath Gunawardana, Commander, Security Forces – Wanni (SF – W) and Colonel Commandant SLE, in the company of the Centre Commandant SLE, Brigadier Ravindra Dias. He was afterwards invited to receive the salute in the Guard of Honour in the parade ground, presented by SLE troops of regular and volunteer units.

After a while, the retiring 22nd Commander of the Army had a meeting with SLE Regimental Council members before he joined all ranks for refreshments at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess where he took time off to share pleasantries with the attendees and posed for a group photograph with officers who showed up for the occasion.
