Ordnance Corps grabs the overall Championship in Tennis

Twenty four tennis players from eight Regiments including Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps participated in the Inter Regiment final match, held in two divisional open signals and duels at the Army Headquarters Tennis court Wednesday (10) afternoon.

Captain G.T.S Silva from Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps won the first place in the single division after defeating his opponent, Major H. M. R. S. Fernando of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.

Duel finals were called off due to poor weather leaving room for the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps and Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment to be adjudged on a par with each other. However, the overall championship went to Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps following their merits in the single division.

Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Gajaba Regiment, Gamunu Watch, Sri Lanka Army Services Corps, Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps, Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps vied for places at the tournament which commenced on 05 November 2004.

The tournament was organized by the Sri Lanka Army Tennis Committee under the auspices of Major General M.D.S Chandrapala Director General, General Staff and the Commandant of Sri Lanka Volunteer Force with the collaboration of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association who were the referees for the tournament.

Major General S. Wanigasekara, Commandant Army Command and Staff College gave away awards and certificates.
