Ordnance Corps 'Colours Night' Felicitates Achievers &;amp; Retired Contributors

Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC), a dedicated regiment of Army personnel who have done an unparalleled contribution towards defence of the motherland, recently held its ‘Colours Night’ at Colombo Bishop’s College auditorium in a glittering ceremony for the 2nd consecutive year in its 65 years of Ordnance history.

Deputy Chief of Staff Major General Mahinda Ambanpola as the Chief Guest graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, together with Mrs Shirani Ambanpola, Chairperson, Engineer Service Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit. Major General R.V Udawatte, Colonel Commandant, SLAOC welcomed the visiting Chief Guest on arrival at the venue.

The two-minute silence, as is the practice in all military ceremonies, first of all revered the memories of fallen (SLAOC) War Heroes while defending the country. The ceremony saw 120 SLAOC achievers carry away prestigious Colours for their outstanding sport performances in varying disciplines.

Lance Corporal W.A.S Manuranga, Sri Lankan Wushu Player, Warrant Officer I K.M.K Sunil, former Sri Lankan Volleyball Captain and renowned Sri Lankan Cricketer, Warrant Officer II Sekkuge Prasanna were adjudged as Best Sportsmen in 2015. As the audience burst into a round of applause, they received Colours from the day’s Chief Guest.

In addition, retired 12 Officers and Senior Non Commissioned Officers who did their best for the SLAOC field of sports were felicitated and awarded special trophies in recognition of their contribution.  During the same occasion, 7 more SLAOC sportsmen received special laurels for their achievements.

Ordnance Sportsmen excelled in Badminton, Boxing, Cricket, Cycling, Hockey, Judo, Karate, Motor Sports, Weight Lifting & Body Building, Rugby, Soccer, Swimming, Squash Table Tennis, Wushu and Volleyball also were awarded Ordnance Colours during the ceremony.

Several eye-catching cultural and dancing spectacles, choreographed by award winning Channa-Upuli, Kevin Nugara troupe and the Army cultural troupe entertained the attendees.
