12 Student Officers following the Logistics Staff Course No-7 and few Instructors at the Army School of Logistics (ASL) at Trincomalee recently under the 'Army to Army' cooperation project flew to India to share experiences in the Indian Army domain of logistics.
The delegation of the ASL, composed of 17 Officers, including the Chief Instructor, Senior Instructor (Training Team II), three faculty members and 12 Student Officers left on 24 September 2021 for the 14-day long goodwill tour to India and the team was headed by the Chief Instructor of the Army School of Logistics, Colonel Y.K.S Rangika.
During the visit, the delegation visited five main cities in India namely; Mumbai, Aurangabad, Pune, Jabalpur and Hyderabad and covered ten military establishments, five civil organizations and seven sightseeing locations where briefings were conducted.
Military establishments included the College of Military Engineering in Pune (CME), Military Institution of Technology in Pune (MILIT), National Defence Academy in Pune (NDA), College of Material Management in Jabalpur (CMM), Military College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in Secunderabad (MCEME) and the College of Defence Management in Hyderabad (CDM). The exposure and interaction to these places immensely benefitted the Student Officers to broaden their horizons and experiences gained from these institutions were much constructive and enlightened the Student Officers.
The delegation was also invited to visit Indian Army’s administrative HQs; HQ Maharashtra Gujarat and Goa Area in Mumbai, HQ Madhya Bharat Area in Jabalpur and HQ Andhra and Telangana Sub Area in Hyderabad. The visit enabled all visitors to know how large Armies are running with their logistics and administrative activities in modern context and how operational readiness of the Indian Army in its supply network is managed.The delegation also visited the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, which has the capacity to dock the Indian Navy’s largest aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya.
Moreover, the delegation visited the Consular General's Office of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, Bharat Petroleum Refinery in Mumbai, Gun Carriage Factory in Jabalpur, Hyderabad Metro Rail Project and the IKEA Shopping Center.
The delegation was also taken to visit tourist attractions in India inclusive of Ellora caves in Aurangabad, caves of the Mahayana tradition of Buddhism, Brahmanical group of caves including the renowned Kailasa temple and Jaina philosophy and more importantly the Ajantha, associated with Buddhist philosophy.
The delegation while receiving hospitality of the Indian Army strictly adhered to Covid 19 prevention measures in order not to be affected by the virus.
