One More Smuggled Turmeric Stock Detected

Troops of 7 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), together with Intelligence troops of the 54 Division HQ in Mannar apprehended 1963 kg of illegal turmeric during a search by the troops at Mannar bridge road block in Mannar on Tuesday (1) while a suspect was transporting the stock from Mannar to Dambulla in a cab.

Obtaining a Court order for transportation of the same, the suspect was carrying an unauthorized stock in excess at the time he was stopped for a search.

Army, Navy and Air Force troops throwing their full-weight behind the government’s all-out war against narcotics, drugs and smuggling of contraband have in the past recovered drugs, turmeric and other contraband from Mannar and elsewhere.
