The third Special Infantry Operational course (SIO) at Vavuniya Commando Training School, saw another batch of seventy Officers and Other Ranks of Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Gemunu Watch and Gajaba Regiment passed out early this week after a grand parade and ceremony in Vavuniya.
This three-month course gives them the opportunity to receive special training in different military fields, such as signals, engineering, medical and artillery, to name a few.
Major General Parami Kulatunga, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest highlighted the importance of this type of continuous training for a professional soldier during his speech to the soldiers.
“Such skills enable the soldier to confront his enemy for the sake of his motherland and the soldiers who have received the SIO training are ten-times more efficient than ordinary soldiers. Those qualifications would transform you to a soldier who is determined and highly skilful,†he added.
Highlights of the day covered a spectacular parachute display, which attracted the attention of thousands of school children who cheerfully witnessed air drops. A large gathering of Senior Officers and Other Ranks from respective Battalions, deployed in the Wanni region attended the occasion.
