One More Retiring GR Senior Officer Receives Best Wishes from Army Chief

The retiring Major General WBWWRSP Aluvihare RWP RSP of the Gajaba Regiment (GR), the former General Officer Commanding of the 22 Division on invitation arrived at the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage on Monday (3).

Having served the Army for more than 32 years in an exemplary manner, Major General WBWWRSP Aluvihare RWP RSP, who is to retire shortly received appreciative compliments and best wishes from the Army Chief during the meeting.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage commended his working capacity, commitment and dedication to the Army while serving different offices during his military career. He also refreshed memories of the retiree’s invaluable sacrifices and dedicated roles during the height of the war against terrorism as an infantry Officer of the highest caliber before May 2009. The Army Chief while sharing a few pleasantries with the guest recalled their school day mentioning classmates. He also inquired into the retiring Senior Officer's future endeavors and plans and wished him good luck.

The retiring Senior Officer also in turn thanked the Commander of the Army for his wishes and guidance while mentioning the encouragement he received in the performance of his duties. Towards the end of the interaction, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage awarded a special memento to the outgoing Major General WBWWRSP Aluvihare RWP RSP as a symbol of appreciation.

The Senior Officer, who made a significant contribution to the war against terrorism played a leading role in the battlefield; especially during the era of Humanitarian Operation, directly involving in the Operations in Northern and Eastern, fronts by commanding his battalion to capture the vital locations of the enemy. In addition, the Senior Officer immensely contributed for streamlining the training of soldiers’ and was instrumental in uplifting the standard of the military training of Army soldiers during his tenure as the Commanding Officer’ and the Commandant, Combat Training School, Amapara. In recognition of tire dedicated service rendered to the Army in general, he was designated as the General Officer Commanding of 22 Division, which is one of the most senior and prestigious appointments that could be held by a Senior Officer in the rank of Major General.

Major General WBWWRSP Aluvihare RWP RSP enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 26 July 1988. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Mi1itary Academy - Diyatalawa and Pakistan Military Academy, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Gajaba Regiment on 09 June 1990. After being steadily elevated to subsequent ranks in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 07 May 2021.

The Senior Officer has been awarded gallantry and service medals in appreciation of his dedicated service rendered during his tenure in the Sri Lanka Army; Rana Wickrama Padakkama, Rana Sura Padakkama, Eastern Humanitarian Operation Medal, Northern Humanitarian Operation Medal, Purna Bhumi Padakkama, North and East Operation Medal and Clasp 1, Riviresa Campaign Service Medal, 50th Independence Anniversary Commemoration Medal, Sri Lanka Army 50th Anniversary Medal, Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal and Clasp, Sevabihimani Padakkama.
