One More CPR Workshop Educates Nurses & Para Medics at Army Hospital

The training workshop No 24 on ‘Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)’ for nurses and paramedics of the Department of Anaesthesiology, Pain Management and Critical Care at the Colombo Army Hospital got underway on Friday (24).

The workshop is one segment of the hospital’s monthly programme, meant to keep the medical staff enlightened on updates under the ongoing Continuous Medical Education (CME) project, launched by Colonel Chrisantha Fernando, Director, Army Hospital on the directions of Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director General, Army Health Services with the blessings of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva.

This was the 24th workshop, organized under this ongoing project. Colonel Dhawala Perera, Head of Anaesthesia Department and Lieutenant Colonel Champika Abeysinghe, Consultant Anaesthetist conducted this workshop in line with the world-wide accepted European Resuscitation Council guidelines.

Major Yasar Pathirana, Captain Thilina Maduranga and Dr Uditha Madushanka as the trainers explained how such conditions are identified, prevented and treated during the workshop, for 22 trainee nurses, including 5 nurses from the Army Base Hospital, Kilinochchi.

Further, the participants were also trained to identify cardiac arrest and how they can be resuscitated successfully. The trainers are planning to outreach the peripheral hospitals to train all nurses and paramedics in this regard in the Army.
