One More Batch of Dependent War Heroes Receives Financial Grants for House Constructions

Following a close survey made by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) with the blessings of the Commander of the Army and the ASVU President Mrs Nayana De Silva, in another gesture of generosity and recognition, awarded financial grants to eight more dependent War Heroes for construction of their new or partly-built houses during a simple ceremony at Mihindu Seth Medura (MSM), Attidiya on Tuesday (2).

A few weeks ago the ASVU following direct instructions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva who has shown a keen interest in providing Army personnel with decent dwelling places conducted this survey for the most wanted before a total of about Rs 4.7 million was distributed among 8 dependent War Heroes.

Under the programme Mrs Nayana De Silva, President, ASVU extending her motherly care this morning (2) went to the MSM and personally handed over those grants to the recipients.

2 dependent War Heroes of Major rank and a Sergeant Major rank were awarded Rs 1 million and Rs 7.5 lakhs respectively for construction of new houses.

A sum of Rs 1 million was also granted to another young dependent War Hero who is resident at the MSM on the same occasion.

4 more dependent War Heroes of Corporal rank and Sergeant Major rank during the same ceremony received cash grants to the value of Rs 5 lakhs, Rs 4.8 lakhs and Rs 3.5 lakhs (two War Heroes) for completion of their half-built houses.

On the same occasion, a sum of Rs 2 lakhs was presented to another civil employee in the Army who is planning to buy a new house.

During the same ceremony, a water purification filter was also donated to a civil employee serving the Commander’s Secretariat.

Meanwhile, Mrs Prajeewa Alwis, Chairperson, Military Intelligence Corps Seva Vanitha Unit (MIC-SVU) donated a cheque to the value of Rs 1 million towards the Army ASVU welfare fund. MIC-SVU collected those funds during a lottery draw, held at the MIC Regimental Headquarters.

Several Seva Vanitha Unit chairpersons, senior ASVU members, Army officers, Commandant, MSM, and several others were present at the occasion.
