Olympic Torch of Reconciliation Reaches Kilinochchi

Sri Lanka Olympic committee organized Olympic Torch tour for reconciliation which started from Jaffna, reached Kilinochchi on 31 August.

Troops of the 57 Division at Kilinochchi after formally accepting the Olympic Torch delivered it to the District Secretariat Kilinochchi the same afternoon according to the programme of the Sri Lanka Olympic committee.

On second day of the Olympic Torch tour for reconciliation commenced early in the morning at the District Secretariat premises during simple ceremony.

District Secretary, Kilinochchi Mr Arumenayagam Sundaralingam, General Officer Commanding 57 Division Major General Jagath Gunawardhana and many Senior Officers participated in the ceremony.

At the end of the ceremony, a sapling was planted as token of memory of the event. Finally, troops under Security Forces Headquarters - Kilinochchi took responsibility for Olympic torch and then it was given to the officials of Ministry of Sport at the entrance to the 57 Division Headquarters to be taken to Mullaittivu District.

This Olympic Torch is scheduled to be taken around the country as a gesture of reconciliation.
