OCDC Buttala Annual Seminar Educates Middle Grade Officers

The inaugural opening session of the Buttala Officer Career Development Centre (OCDC) on the theme, ‘Adaptability into the modern day security context; transformation of a soldier’ got underway at its main auditorium on Thursday (21).

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army attended the inauguration as the Chief Guest.

Traditional oil lamp lighting paved the way for the OCDC Commandant, Brigadier Chandana Gunawardana to deliver his welcome speech.

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake afterwards delivered the keynote address, laying a solid platform to unfold seminar sessions on the relevant subject theme.

Sixty-four (64) senior officers of the Sri Lanka Army in the rank of Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel and Major attended the seminar 2/2017 at the OCDC Buttala.

Senior Lecturers of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Professor Amal Jayawardane, Department of Strategic Studies and Dr Lakshika Liyanage, Department of Management Studies attended the inaugural ceremony as the guest lecturers.

During 21-22 December, the five sessions will follow interactive question and answer sessions, allowing the participants to express and share their views and impressions.

OCDC added memories to the Commander’s visit to the OCDC by presenting him with a special portrait. Brigadier Chandana Gunawardena, OCDC, Commandant made the symbolic gesture.

Before his exit from the premises, the Commander had a close look at the construction work in progress in the premises.

Before his departure from the OCDC premises, he left his signature in the Visitors' Book at the OCDC premises.

Major General Rukmal Dias, Commander, Security Forces – Central and a few Senior Officers also participated in the seminar.
