Novices in Swimming Make New Records

The Inter Regiment Novices' Short Course Swimming Championship tournament, competed by more than 80 swimmers of 11 Regiments and three Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) battalions, got underway at 21 Division swimming complex in Anuradhapura during 14-15 February.

In the finals, the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) team won many of the medals to claim the Championship beating their rivals. The finals and the prize-awarding ceremony on Thursday (15) attracted a large gathering of swimming fans in the Army.

The Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) team emerged runners up in the finals. In the meantime, women’s championship was won by swimmers in the 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) while the 2nd place went to the 3 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps.

The tournament was organized for the 3rd consecutive year under the supervision of Major General Piyal Wickramaratne, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) as the Chairman in the Army Aquatic Sports Committee.

Major General Athula Galagamage, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 54 Division attended the final awarding ceremony of the tournament as the Chief Guest and gave away trophies to the winners.
