The National Youth Junior and Senior Novices’ Weightlifting Championship was held in Welikanda at the Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) gymnasium during 19-20 May.
The tournament was organized by the Polonnaruwa District Weightlifting Association in partnership with the Welikanda Divisional Secretariat and the SFHQ-E.
The Championship was meant to encourage robust young weightlifters to exhibit their skills and aptitudes in order to reach national and international levels.
Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, Commander, Security Forces-East as the Chief Guest inaugurated the event at the invitation of the Divisional Secretary Welikanda, Mr Harsha Bandara.
The Commander, Security Forces-East and several invitees awarded trophies and awards to winners during the award ceremony.
