The provincial War Hero commemoration of the Northern Province, occurred on Saturday (11) in front of the war memorial (Ranaviru Smarakaya) at Kilinochchi.
After observances of all major denominations, a section of disable War Heroes placing floral wreaths revered the memory of their fallen comrades in a solemn moment of grief as the day’s programme got to a start.
Major General (retd) G.A Chandrasiri, Governor for Northern Province took part in the arrangement as the Chief Guest. A special feature of the memorial service was the recital of a patriotic War Hero song by students at Kilinochchi Tamil Vidyalayam who had been invited soon after religious observances were over.
At the same occasion, all disable War Heroes participating in the event were honoured offering bouquets of flowers and gift parcels to each and everyone of them. Colourful dancing features, presented by students of Kilinochchi St Theresa Girls’ School and Vavuniya Nithya Nikethana dancing troupe added colour to the ceremony.
Ms R Kethishwaran, District Secretary for Kilinochchi, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), Rear Admiral D.S Udawatte, Naval Commander for East, Ms Vijaya Lakshmi, Northern Province Secretary and a large gathering of people joined the commemorative ceremony.
