Newly-Promoted GOC Warmly Welcomed at 24 Division HQ

24 Infantry Division troops of the Security Force HQ-East, together with troops of under-command Brigades and Battalions extended a warm welcome to Major General Wipula Chandrasiri, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 24 Infantry Division in Ampara when he arrived at the Division HQ after receiving his new insignia as a Major General from Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army on the Independence Day (Feb 04).

The GOC was warmly welcomed by Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the 24 Infantry Division upon arrival where he was accorded a ceremonial Guard Turnout at the entrance. A subsequent Guard of Honour parade saluted him after review of it in keeping with military traditions.

Continuing the day’s proceedings, the GOC symbolized memories of the day’s event by planting a 'Sal' sapling in the premises. Minutes later, the Senior Officer addressed the Officers and Other Ranks of the Infantry Division and expressed his sincere thanks for organizing such a felicitation to extend greetings and best wishes.
