Major General W.H.K.S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, Commander, Security Forces - West assumed duties as the 24th Colonel Commandant of Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) on 23 November 2023 during a brief ceremony, held at the Regimental Centre, Military Intelligence Corps.
The newly-appointed Colonel Commandant was warmly welcomed by Brigadier T.N Majeed RSP USP Lsc, together with Brigadier T.T.P Siriwardana RSP psc Lsc, the Centre Commandant on arrival before he was honoured in a Guard Turnout, followed by a floral tribute to the Regimental War Heroes’ monument.
After a short while, the newly-appointed Colonel Commandant was invited to the parade ground to receive the salute of the Guard of Honour, accorded in his honour by Military Intelligence Corps troops at the Regimental Headquarters.
Then, symbolizing his acceptance of the new office amid religious observances, Major General W.H.K.S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu left his signature in an official document in the presence of a gathering of Senior Officers. Afterwards, he planted a sapling in the camp premises as a token of remembrance of this special occasion.
Further, setting out his scope of work and duties Major General W.H.K.S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu afterwards addressed the Officers as a formality and emphasized the importance of working as a team to protect the image of the Regiment.
Towards the end of the day’s ceremony, the new Colonel Commandant participated in the customary All Ranks tea and took time off to share views with the attendees.
