Major General Champaka Ranasinghe made his maiden visits to the under command Brigades on 31 October, 01 and 02 November 2020 after assuming duties as the General Officer Commanding of the 23 Division.
On arrival at the 231 Brigade Headquarters on Saturday (31), the visiting General Officer Commanding (GOC) was received by the Commander, 231 Brigade, Colonel Pradeep Gamage. Subsequently, the GOC was briefed on the deployment, threat perceptions and routine operations in the 231 Brigade Area of Responsibility by the Brigade Commander and Commanding Officers of under command battalions. Later, the GOC visited the COVID 19 Treatment Hospital at Kattankudy, Thalankudah Quarantine Centre and the Division’s southern boundary at Periyakallar.
On the following day, Sunday (1), the General Officer Commanding visited the 233 Brigade in Vakarai where he was accorded a warm reception by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier Rajith Elvitigala. A formal presentation was then conducted by the Brigade Commander & Commanding Officers of under command Battalions and briefed him on the operational deployment of the 233 Brigade.
The GOC visited the 232 Brigade, Thoppigala on Monday (2) to be warmly welcomed by the Commander 232 Brigade, Brigadier Wasantha Liyanawaduge. Later, the GOC paid his thorough attention to the comprehensive briefing presented by the Brigade Commander in relevance to the operational and administrative tasks being carried out by the Brigade. Subsequently, the visiting GOC addressed the Officers and Other Ranks at the lecture hall of the 232 Brigade Headquarters.
During his camp visits, the GOC 23 Division planted saplings at respective locations to symbolize his visit and signed visitors’ books.bridgemedia | Nike
