New Wanni Commander Familiarizes with under Command Formations

The newly-appointed Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General Rohitha Dharmasiri upon assumption of office made several familiarization visits to religious dignitaries, Divisions, Brigades and Units in the past two days.

At first, he paid his obeisance to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya and called on members of the Maha Sangha, including the ‘Atamastanadhipathi’ (Chief Incumbent for eight places of worship), incumbents at Ruwanweli Maha Seya, Mirisawetiya, Abhayagiriya and Jayanthi Viharaya on Thursday (21).

Afterwards, on his arrival at the 21 Division Headquarters, Major General Kumar Jayapathirana, General Officer Commanding, 21 Division welcomed him and invited him to receive the salute in the Guard Turnout and the Guard of Honour.

In order to mark the first visit to Headquarters 21 Division, Major General Rohitha Dharmasiri planted a mango sapling in the camp premises and received a comprehensive briefing, presented by the General Officer Commanding in relation to Operational and Administration tasks of the 21 Division.

On his way, the new Wanni Commander had a close look at the ongoing construction work of the ‘Sandhahiru Seya’ (Stupa) and then visited the historic Thanthirimale Raja Maha Viharaya.

Afterwards, Major General Rohitha Dharmasiri called at the 7 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps camp where he was received by the overlooking Commanding Officer who after a while presented a brief introduction on duties and responsibilities, entrusted to the Regiment.

He also made a casual visit to the Rear Headquarters of the 7 Sri Lanka National Guard, Field Point – 3 of the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps at Nabadagaswewa and also reserve troops at the Medawachchiya establishment respectively.

After a while, he visited the 213 Brigade Headquarters on 23 November 2019. There, the Commander Security Forces - Wanni was received by the Commander 213 Brigade Colonel K.A.N Rasika Kumara and accompanied him to plant a sapling to mark his visit to the 213 Brigade. During the visit, he also evaluated security arrangements and general function of the ammunition dump at 213 Brigade and 5 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry premises. There, the Commanding Officer presented a brief introduction on duties and responsibilities of the Battalion before he inspected the 2 Mechanized Infantry Regiment holiday bungalows in the region.

Similarly, the new Wanni Commander visited the Battalion Training School at Manik Farm and received a detailed account of the role and tasks from the Chief Instructor. While returning, the Commander Security Forces - Wanni visited the Army Farm inside the Manik Farm, Mechanized Infantry Regiment Training School and 2 Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment and got updates on the status quo from respective Commanding Officers.
