New Two-Star Rankers Pay Courtesies & Receive Insignia from Army Chief

The group of 12 new Majors General, just elevated to their next two-star rank to coincide with the 12th National Victory Day commemoration paid a courtesy on General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army at thr Army HQ on Wednesday (19) and received their new insignia from him, attaching special significance to the memorable day.

Accordingly, Major General G. D Sooriyabandara of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC), General Officer Commanding 59 Division, Major General Indu Samarakoon of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME), Director Electrical and Mechanical Engineers , Major General Upali Gunasekera of Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA), General Officer Commanding 62 Division , Major General Keerthi Bandara of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR), General Officer Commanding, 68 Division, Major General Darshana Wijesekera of SLSR, Deputy Commandant DSCSC, Major General Harindra Peiris of Gajaba Regiment (GR), General Officer Commanding 52 Division, Major General Saman Liyanage of SLA, Brigadier General Staff at Security Force HQ Kilinochchi, Major General Mahinda Jayawardena of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE), Plant Engineering Brigade Commander, Major General Tharaka Rathnasekara of SLAC, Commander, Armoured Corps Brigade, Major General Keerthi Kottawatta of Gemunu Watch, Director, Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, Major General Mohan Rathnayake of Gajaba Regiment, General Officer Commanding, 21 Division and Major General Sanath Aluvihare of Gajaba Regiment, Commandant at Combat Training School, Ampara paid their courtesies to the Army Chief.

General Shavendra Silva extending his warm wishes and greetings on their promotions requested the new two star Officers to fulfill their responsibilities with more dedication and to the best of their ability for the sake of the country’s forward-march. He also highlighted the importance of a promotion as a symbol of admiration of their performances, conduct and many other merits. The Commander also pinned new insignia on all twelve Senior Officers and presented a symbolic memento to each of them before all posed for a group photo with the Commander of the Army.
