New State Minister of Internal Security amid Religious Observances Begins Duties

Hon Chamal Rajapaksa, State Minister of Internal Security, Home Affairs and Disaster Management assumed his new duties at the new office premises in the Narahenpita (Nila Medura) this afternoon (17).

Amid chanting of 'Seth Pirith' by Buddhist monks and observance of Hindu, Catholic and Islamic religious prayers, the new Minister left his signature in an official document and signified the acceptance of the new office before the document was returned to the Secretary to the new State Ministry.

Minutes after the Minister was conducted to the office premises, religious observances got underway after the new Minister, Hon Chamal Rajapaksa, together with the Secretary Defence Major General (Retd) Kamal Gunarathna, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID 19 Outbreak, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, acting Inspector General of Police, Mr Chandana Wickremaratne, lit the traditional oil lamp and inaugurated the new office.

Relatives, government officials, heads of different institutes under the Ministry, Senior Police and Military officers, officials in the Ministry were associated with the programme.

A few minutes later, the new Minister spelt out his vision for the future and addressed a representative gathering of officials that work under the purview of the Ministry.
