Major General Jayantha Gunarathna, the newly-appointed Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) on arrival at the SLLI Regimental HQ was cordially welcomed on Thursday (12).
Upon arrival at the SLLI Regimental Headquarters at the Army Cantonment in Panagoda, the new Colonel of the Regiment was greeted to a Guard Turnout. Afterwards, a formal Guard of Honour with regimental colours saluted him, together with the SLLI's mascot, Kandula.
In his office, he placed his signature for an official document and marked the event during a brief religious ceremony. Planting of a sapling added memories to the event.
Offer of a flower wreath to the SLLI monument, a group photograph, troops' address, sharing of refreshments with all ranks dominated the day's itinerary.
Major General Jayantha Gunarathna is also the Commander of the Security Forces Kilinochchi.
