Major General S.U.M.N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc assumed duties as the 51st Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), amidst religious blessings and military formalities, conducted at the SLAVF HQ premises at Seethawaka, Kosgama on Friday (09 June).
The day’s Chief Guest was warmly welcomed on arrival by Major General M.T.K R Silva KSP, Deputy Commandant of the SLAVF. In accordance with military traditions, troops of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment at the SLAVF presented a Guard Turnout at first. After a few minutes, the incoming SLAVF Commandant was saluted in a Guard of Honour in the parade ground.
At his new office, he placed his signature for an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of duties at the auspicious minute amidst blessings of the Maha Sangha who chanted ‘Seth Pirith’ and blessed the new office.
The new Commandant was then invited to plant a Mango sapling in the compound as an addition to the memory of his inauguration of the new office. Next, he formally addressed the troops and set out his vision for the future of the SLAVF. Towards the culmination of the day's proceedings, the new Commandant attended an All Rank tea with all serving the SLAVF HQ.
Major General S.U.M.N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc succeeded Major General W.A.S.S Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu who has now been appointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army.
Major General S.U.M.N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, prior to this new appointment, served as the Director General General Staff and Commander, 1 Corps in Kilinochchi. He is the Colonel of the Regiment, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
