Major General N.A.J.C Dias assumed duties as the sixth Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) on Wednesday (8) after relinquishing his duties as Adjutant General in the Army.
In accordance with military traditions, a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour saluted the new Commander on arrival at the SFHQ-MLT premises.
More popularly known as Major General Jagath Dias of Gajaba Regiment, he is also the Colonel Commandant of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment at present.
Troops of 16 Gajaba Regiment (GR) presented the Guard of Honour parade at the parade square at SFHQ-MLT to welcome the new Commander. He signed an official document to signify the acceptance of his office soon after religious observances were over.
Major General Dias who has served a number of prestigious appointments in the Army has fulfilled a formidable role in eradicating terrorism during humanitarian operations.
Soon after the acceptance of office, Major General Dias spoke to all those senior officers present, including Navy and Air Force serving the area and expressed his wish to work with them in close cooperation.
In the meantime, the outgoing Security Force Commander - Mullaittivu Major General L.B.R Mark was accorded a ceremonial farewell, held at the Security Force Headquarters at Mullaittivu last Tuesday (7).
Major General Mark assumed office on 25 July 2010 and he was the fifth Commander of the Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu. He is to take up duties as the Master General Ordnance at the Army Headquarters.
During his tenure, Major General Mark's leadership paved the way to uplift the living standards of Mullaittivu denizens and the civil society at large. He made a brief speech and thanked everyone for their cooperation.
Senior Army officers Including General Officers Commanding, Base Commanders of Navy and Air Force and the SSP (Mullaittivu) attended the farewell ceremony.
