New MIR Colonel of the Regiment Makes Familiarization Visits

Major General Priyanka Fernando after assumption of office as new Colonel of the Regiment of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) made his first official visit to the Mechanized Infantry Training Centre at Menik Farm and the 2nd Battalion of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment at Menik Farm on 13 August 2021 adhering to COVID-19 health guidelines.

The first half of the day covered the Mechanized Infantry Training Centre. The Colonel of the Regiment was warmly welcomed by the Commandant, Mechanized Infantry Training Centre Colonel A.K Peiris upon arrival. Thereafter, he was invited to plant a sapling and sat for a group photograph. During the visit, the formal briefing was conducted by the Commandant before he visited the camp premises and addressed the troops of the Mechanized Infantry Training Centre and the 2 nd Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment.

During the second half of the day, he called at the 2nd Battalion Mechanized Infantry Regiment. Upon the arrival, he was presented with a drive past Guard Turnout and received by the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel K.G.N.N Kariyawasam. Thereafter, the Colonel of the Regiment was invited to plant a sapling before the Commanding Officer presented a briefing. After a group photograph, he visited the camp premises. Finally, Colonel of the Regiment left his remarks in the visitors’ book to mark the visit.

Centre commandant, Mechanized Infantry Regimental Centre, Brigadier Sagara Wanasinghe and Commander, Mechanized Infantry Brigade Brigadier Kavinda Balasooriya were present at those occasions.
