Major General H.M.U Herath RWP RSP VSV USP Hdmc psc, General Officer Commanding of 61 Infantry Division, after assuming duties in his new appointment as the Colonel of the Regiment of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) made his maiden visits to 1 MIR located at Iyakkachchi, 2 MIR and MIR Training Centres located at Manik Farm in Settikulam during July 3 -4.
On arrival, the Senior Officer was welcomed by respective Commanding Officers, Lieutenant Colonel D.G.J.B.P Dembatagahawaththa USP psc, Lieutenant Colonel B.A.L Balasooriya RSP USP and Colonel H.A.A.N.C Prabhath RSP USP, Commandant at MIR Training Centre after he was honoured in a Guard Turnout at each entrance.
Adding memories to the day, the chief guest was invited to plant saplings and pose for group photographs. In each location, he addressed the troops and toward the end, he was presented with special mementoes.
Besides, he inaugurated the renovated parade square at 2 MIR compound and warmed the newly-constructed accommodation for Warrant Officers and Sergeants after he spoke to the participants in the ongoing Young Officers’ Course. Likewise, he received briefings at each camp premises and inquired about the well-being of the troops before he interacted with the troops during All-Rank tea arrangements. Prior to his departure, he penned some of his thoughts and complimentary remarks in the visitors' book at each location.
Brigadier B.P.G.K Balasooriya RSP psc, Commander of Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Brigadier A.M.A Abeysinghe RWP RSP USP psc, Centre Commandant of MIR Regimental HQ, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks also took part in those events.
