Brigadier S. A. P. Prasad Samarasinghe RSP psc assumed office today (23) as new Military Spokesman and Director, Directorate of Media in the Sri Lanka Army during a simple ceremony at Army Headquarters.
Brigadier Samarasinghe initialed an official document to signify the assumption of duties after he lit the traditional oil lamp inside the office premises. Later on, he spoke to a gathering of Senior Officers and Other Ranks, attached to the Directorate.
He succeeds Brigadier Daya Rathnayake who took over duties as Officiating General Officer Commanding 23 Division in Welikanda after his return from the USA recently. Brigadier Nalin Witharanage was the acting Military Spokesman during Brigadier Rathnayake's absence from the country.
The newly appointed Military Spokesman Brigadier Samarasinghe, as one of the Senior Signal Officers in the Army with a service record spanning over 25 years, has held a number of prestigious appointments after he was enlisted to the Army in 1980. He is an Msc (Defence Studies) graduate from Kotalawala Defence Academy.
He relinquished the Command in 222 Brigade in Trincomalee south to assume duties in this capacity this morning (23). He has also commanded two Brigades in Jaffna and Wanni before he commanded the 222 Brigade.
To his credit, he also held a number of other staff appointments in the service including those of the Colonel General Staff, 22 Division Headquarters, Trincomalee, Colonel General Staff, Directorate of Operations, Army Headquarters, Assistant Military Secretary, Army Headquarters and Centre Commandant, Sri Lanka Signal Corps, to name a few.
He also followed overseas military courses in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh including the Senior Command Course in India, Staff Course in Staff College, Bangladesh and the Electronic Course in UK. In addition, he attended a number of seminars and workshops including one in the Philippines and four in Hawai, USA .
