Major General K.A.D.A Karunasekara of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment assumed office as Military Secretary at Army Headquarters after a brief religious ceremony.
Major General Karunasekara who is also the SLLI Colonel of the Regiment served as Master General, Master General Ordnance Branch at Army Headquarters before he was appointed to the new office.
Upon arrival at his office, he conducted religious observances before he formally placed his signature in an official document to symbolize the acceptance of his office as Military Secretary of the Army.
Having joined the Army as an officer cadet in 1981, he was commissioned as a 2 Lieutenant in the SLLI upon completion of his initial training at the pioneer Sri Lanka Military Academy at Diyatalawa.
During his career spanning for more than 33 years, Major General Karunasekara has served a number of prestigious appointments in the Army. Among them were Director, Military Intelligence, Director, Infantry, Commander of the first-ever contingent to the US peace keeping missions in Haiti, Officer Instructor at Diyatalawa, Directing Staff at Defence Command and Staff College, Sapugaskanda and a few other senior appointments.
