New Majors General on Army Day Adorned with Rank Insignia

On account of the Army Day & 71st Army Anniversary (10 October) in a very rare gesture of appreciation and commendation, 09 out of 13 senior Brigadiers of the Army who were elevated to the rank of Major General had the privilege of receiving their new rank insignia from none other than their chief, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army during an audience, all 09 of them have had this morning (10) at the Commander’s office at the Army HQ in Sri Jayawardenepura.

Major General Ajith Pallawela of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, General Officer Commanding, 64 Division, Major General Upali Rajapaksha of Commando Regiment, General Officer Commanding, 68 Division, Major General Ashoka Peiris of Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Director General Information Technology, Major General Priyantha Gamage of Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Director General, Human Rights & International Humanitarian Law, Major General Champika Ranasingha of Gajaba Regiment, Commandant, Infantry Training Centre, Major General Sarada Samarakoon of Gajaba Regiment, General Officer Commanding, 11 Division, Major General Nishantha Manage of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, General Officer Commanding, 53 Division, Major General Tikiri Dissanayake of Sri Lanka Artillery, General Officer Commanding, 65 Division and Major General Rohana Ganegoda of Corps Engineers Service, Director General Engineer Services were among those 12 Senior Officers elevated to their next rank on account of the 71st anniversary on a directive of HE the President with the concurrence of the Ministry of Defence and Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva along with 502 more Officers respectively to the rank of Brigadier, Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, Major, Captain, Lieutenant and Second Lieutenant.

Due to unforseen commitments, Brigadier Sumith Premalal of Sri Lanka Artillery, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, Brigadier Sisira Pilapitiya of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division, Brigadier Samantha Silva of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, General Officer Commanding, 62 Division and Brigadier Edward Jayasinghe of Sri Lanka General Service Corps, Judge Advocate General, who have also been promoted to the rank of Major General could not arrive in Colombo to receive those rank promotion insignia from the Army Chief on Saturday (10).

After awarding their promoted Major General rank insignia, peaks, canes and swords to those Senior Officers who have been rendering a valuable service to the Army in the past years, Lieutenant General Silva presented mementos to all those Officers and wished them good luck with their future undertakings.
