New Kitchen Complex at AHQ Opened for Cooking Operations

The new kitchen complex of the Army Headquarters (AHQ), established in the nearby 14 Corps of Engineer Services (CES) camp was inaugurated this morning (9) by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army at the invitation of Brigadier Indika Perera, Commanding Officer, Army HQ Battalion.

General Shavendra Silva during the simple ceremony unveiled a plaque to this effect and declared it open for the best interests of the troops serving the Army HQ at Sri Jayawardenepura.

At the next moment, the day’s Chief Guest by lighting one of the gas cookers symbolically inaugurated its cooking functions in the new kitchen where most modern equipment and utensils have the capacity for cooking meals for 5,000 personnel at a time.

This new kitchen complex, equipped with modern cool boxes, refrigerators, boilers, coconut scrapers, grinders, blenders, ovens, etc was brought to completion by troops of the 14 CES using their manpower, rich with technical and engineering skills. The Commander of the Army during his stay inside closely looked at different sections and shared a few thoughts with chefs and Army personnel, deployed for those cooking duties.

Brigadier Indika Perera, Commanding Officer, Army HQ Battalion received the Commander of the Army on arrival at the location. Major General Priyantha Perera, Chief of Staff, Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda, Deputy Chief of Staff, Senior Officers and officers attended the opening by adhering to health guidelines.
