Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa assumed duties as the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna on Friday (17) amid religious and military formalities. A Guard of Honour, presented by 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops at the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna (SFHQ-J) was the day's highlight.
As members of the Maha Sangha began chanting of 'Seth Pirith', he afterwards symbolized the acceptance of the new office by placing his signature in the first official document in the presence of the Commander, Forward Maintenance Area (North), General Officers Commanding of 51, 52 and 55 Divisions and Senior Staff Officers at the Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna.
Religious dignitaries of Hindu, Catholic and Islam were also present during the inauguration where the office was blessed. He planted a mango sapling, marking his appointment as the Commander Security Forces Jaffna in the compound before he sat for a group photograph.
Similarly, the new Jaffna Commander attended the commemoration of fallen War Heroes of the Armed Forces who served under the Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna by offering floral tributes at the Palaly War Heroes' Monument. Several Senior Officers and Other Ranks of the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna also took part in the occasion.
As a formality, the new Jaffna Commander addressed Division Commanders, Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers, Commanding Officers of affiliated battalions and troops serving under the SFHQ-J.
Prior to this new appointment, Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa held the appointment of the Commander, Security Forces-West.
The Commander FMA-North, General Officers Commanding of 51, 52 and 55 Divisions, Brigade Commanders of under Command Brigades, Commanding Officers of under command battalions, Officers and Other Ranks of the SFHQ (Jaffna) were present at the ceremony.
