New Jaffna Commander Assumes Duties

THE NEWLY appointed Security Forces Commander, Jaffna Major General G.P.R. de Silva assumed his duties on Sunday (26) morning at his office inside the Security Forces Headquarters in Jaffna (SFHQ-J). 

The new Commander was accorded a Guard Turn out and a Guard of Honour by soldiers in the 11th Vijayaba Infantry Regiment on his arrival at the premises. He lit the traditional oil lamp and attended to religious rituals of all four major denominations before he initialed the first document as symbolic commencement of his duties. 

Later, he unveiled a portrait of his predecessor at the SFHQ-J library premises and shared a cup of tea with all ranks. He also laid a floral wreath at the War Hero memorial in the SFHQ-J premises in honour of all fallen War Heroes.  

Before being appointed the SF Commander Jaffna, Maj. Gen. Silva served as the Director General General Staff (DGGS) at Army Headquarters (AHQ). 

General Officer Commanding 21 Division, Assistant Military Secretary AHQ, Brigadier General Staff-SF Headquarters (Wanni), Commander 233 Brigade Batticaloa, Colonel General Staff 11 Division Panagoda and Commander 112 Brigade Colombo were among other senior appointments he has held during his military career spanning over 29 years.
