New Inspector General of Police Calls on Army Chief

The recently appointed Inspector General of Police, Mr. Deshabandu Thennakoon was welcomed this afternoon (21 Mar) to the Army Headquarters amidst ceremonial honours when he arrived to pay courtesies to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, upon assuming his new office.

Upon his arrival, in accordance with military traditions, a ceremonial Guard Turnout was presented to the visiting Inspector General of Police. A few minutes later, he was welcomed by Major General W.W.H.R.R.V.M.N.D.K.B. Niyangoda RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, the Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army, before inviting to review the Guard of Honour parade presented by Sri Lanka Engineers troops.

Afterwards, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage warmly welcomed the visiting Inspector General of Police and introduced all Principal Staff Officers and Senior Officers of the Army. To capture the moment, the Inspector General of Police posed for several group photographs.

Following the ceremonial formalities, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage and Inspector General of Police had a formal meeting in the Commander’s office, where they both recalled the close cooperation between the Army and Police personnel in various spheres of duties and responsibilities. Major General W.H.K.S. Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, the Chief of Staff also took part in the discussion.

At the conclusion of the meeting, they exchanged mementos to mark the significance of the day's events. The Inspector General of Police then wrote complimentary remarks in the Visitors’ Book before leaving the Commander's office.
