New GOC for 24 Division Familiarizes with His Area of Responsibility

The new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 24 Infantry Division in Ampara, Major General Tilak Weerakoon paid his maiden field visits to 241 and 242 Infantry Brigades, under command 23 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 3 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 8 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard, 11 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard and 16 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard during 8-12 August.

On arrival at 241 and 242 Infantry Brigade HQs and other Units the General Officer Commanding was warmly received by Commander 241 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Janaka Wimalarathne and Commander 242 Infantry Brigade Colonel Chandika Peris and other Commanding Officers. He was accorded drive-past Guard Turnouts at both Brigade Headquarters.

Thereafter, brief presentations on administration, operational and logistic aspects of all under command battalions were produced before the visiting GOC.

He also visited Quarantine Centres at Combat Training School-Ampara and at Noracholai functional under the 24 Infantry Division HQ.
