New Filling Station at Army HQ Inaugurated

The Army-constructed new filling station at the Sri Jayawardenepura Army Headquarters, which matches with the newly-beautified surroundings was opened this morning (25) in a simple ceremony.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) as the Chief Guest unveiled the name board of the new filling station and declared it open to the Army.

The day’s Chief Guest afterwards cut a ribbon and inaugurated the office unit in the filling station and had a close look around the premises.

Symbolic of commencement of the function of the new filling station, the day’s Chief Guest held the filling horse by himself and filled fuel to his own vehicle and inaugurated the functioning.

The brief ceremony saw Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva taking time off to speak to the troops who constructed the state-of-the-art new filling station and shared a few thoughts. He also did not forget to commend them for their technical and engineering expertise.

The new filling station, an integral part of the main project of the Army Headquarters was constructed by 8 Corps of Engineer Service (CES) troops, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Narada Wanasinghe at a cost of Rs 36 m under the supervision of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.

Air Vice Marshal Rohan Pathirage, Director, Project Management Unit Defence Headquarters, Army Headquarters coordinated and completed the project on behalf of the Army. The filling station will be maintained by the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps troops under the supervision of Directorate of Supply and Transport, headed by Brigadier Hirosha Wanigasekara.
