New DGGS at Army Headquarters Takes Over

Major General Dananjith Karunarathne, the newly-appointed Director General General Staff (DGGS) at the Army Headquarters assumed duties this morning (30) during a brief religious ceremony.

Amid chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by the Maha Sangha, the new DGGS signed an official document, symbolizing the acceptance of the new appointment soon after the traditional oil lamp was lit by him. Several Senior Officers were present at the occasion.

Major General Dananjith Karunarathne before this appointment was the Commander, Sri Lanka Army Training Command (ARTRAC). He has also served as the Chief Field Engineer at the Army Headquarters before he was posted to the ARTRAC at Diyatalawa. As a Senior Officer of the Sri Lanka Engineers Regiment, he was instrumental in initiating a number of new projects for the welfare of SLE soldiers. He has served a number of other senior key appointments across the country after his enlistment to the Army in 1983.

He replaces Major General Piyal Wikramaratne who has been appointed as the new Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF).
