New Defence Secretary Assumes Office

Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) WWV, RWP and two bars, RSP and bar, USP, MMSc (Strat Stu- China), MSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, MSc (Def & Strat Stu), fndu (China), psc has been appointed as the new Secretary to the Ministry of Defence by His Excellency the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on 23 September 2024. He assumed duties in his new role at the Defence Headquarters, Akuregoda.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army, attended the event.

Soon after assuming his duties, the Defence Secretary chaired a special discussion with defence heads, including the Additional Secretaries of the Defence Ministry, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Tri-Forces Commanders.

The Secretary to the Public Security Ministry and several other officials also attended the event.
