New Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Takes Office

ARMY CHIEF OF STAFF Major General Daya Rathnayaka after relinquishing his duties as Commissioner General of Rehabilitation at Ministry of Justice and Law Reforms handed over the office of Bureau of the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation to his successor, Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe this morning (9).

Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe, a senior officer in the Sri Lanka Engineers Regiment initialed a document and accepted his new office as Commissioner General of Rehabilitation during a brief multi religious ceremony, attended by clergy of all four major denominations.     
 
Members of the Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith and invoked blessings on the new appointment after the new Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe lit the traditional oil lamp and inaugurated the office. He later symbolically placed his signature for an official document to signify the acceptance of his office.

Brigadier Ranasinghe afterwards addressed senior officers and all members of the civil staff who attended the occasion and urged them to cooperate with him as they did with the former commissioner. Officials from Vavuniya, Jaffna and Welikanda Bureaus of the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation were also among the attendees at the ceremony.

The outgoing Commissioner General Major General Daya Rathnayake, now the Army’s Chief of Staff congratulated Brigadier Ranasinghe on his new appointment and expressed his support for smooth conduct of affairs when required. Several senior Army Officers and officials from Ministry of Justice and Law Reforms attended the inauguration.
