New Commander Opens New Army Base Hospital in the East

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, inaugurating an Army-constructed Base Hospital at Minneriya, close to the Infantry Training Centre at Minneriya, symbolized the beginning of his military assignments, outside the Colombo Army Headquarters on Saturday (3) afternoon upon his appointment to the highest seat of commanding in the Army.

This modern hospital with a fair number of beds, a well-equipped laboratory, an operation theatre, an emergency unit, two female wards, plus several other wings and facilities is to serve all the troops serving the Eastern Province as the base hospital for all East-based medical centres and dressing points.

A drive-pass Guard Turnout honoured the Chief Guest on arrival at the venue soon after Major General Lal Perera, Security Force Commander, East welcomed the visiting new Commander for the opening.

The Commander after opening a plaque and lighting the traditional oil lamp declared opened the new base hospital for troops at Minneriya as the auspicious minute struck.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake as a symbol of inauguration registered the first patient and afterwards took time off to go round the premises to see for himself.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Army prior to the hospital opening opened a newly-built pavilion at Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Headquarters on the eve of the SLA’s flagship event, “Gunner Supercross - 2013” on Sunday (4).
