Major General A.C.A De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc, the Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army assumed office as the 11th Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) during a brief ceremony, preceded by religious observances and military formalities on Monday (22 May) at the SLCMP Regimental Headquarters, Polhengoda, Colombo 5.
The day's Chief Guest was warmly received by the SLCMP, Centre Commandant, Brigadier A.M.R Abeysinghe at the Regimental Centre and was accorded a Guard Turnout at the main entrance in accordance with military formalities. Afterwards, he was saluted by SLCMP Troops at the parade square with a ceremonial Guard of Honour before he was invited to sit for a group photograph adding memories to the day.
The newly-appointed Colonel Commandant symbolically left his signature in an official document, signifying the acceptance of his new office at the auspicious minute amidst blessings of the Maha Sangha who chanted 'Seth Pirith' and blessed his new office in the presence of several SLCMP Officers.
Later, the new Colonel Commandant planted a sapling in the compound and added memories to the day's inauguration of his new office before he addressed the troops where he expressed his vision for the Regiment in the future.
He also took his time off to virtually address all Officers and Other Ranks who had not participated physically in the series of events through webcasting before he separately addressed all SLCMP Officers who attended the ceremony.
The SLCMP Centre Commandant, Council Members, Other Senior Officers, Officers and SLCMP Other Ranks participated in the inauguration ceremony.
