New Central Commander Begins Office

Major General Mohan Rathnayake of the Gajaba Regiment assumed office as the new Commander, Security Forces - Central on Thursday (17) during a simple ceremony at the Security Force HQ - Central (SFHQ-C) at Diyathalawa.

A Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour saluted him soon after he arrived at the premises in accordance with military formalities.

Later on, Major General Mohan Rathnayake was invited to his new office where he placed his signature for an official document, signifying the acceptance of his new office. Giving symbolic importance to the day, the new Commander was afterwards invited to plant a sapling in the camp premises.

Setting out his scope of work and duties, Major General Mohan Rathnayake spoke to the troops as a formality and outlined the importance of working as a team for the prosperity of the country and the promotion of the Army image.

General Officers Commanding of 11 and 12 Infantry Divisions, Brigade Commanders, Senior Staff Officers, Staff Officers of the SFHQ – Central, Commanding Officers and Other Ranks participated in the brief inaugural event.
