New Artillery Colonel Commandant Assumes Office

 
Major General S.A.A.L Perera assumed duties as the 17th Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Regiment on Thursday (11) during a brief ceremony, held at the SLA Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda.
 
Soon after his arrival at the venue, he paid his tribute to fallen War Heroes of the Regiment by laying a flower wreath at the Regimental monument. He afterwards reviewed the Guard Turnout and the parade with Regimental Colours, accorded to him as a formal salute.
 
Major General Perera a few minutes later signed an official document, signifying the acceptance of the new appointment amidst senior officers as the auspicious minute struck after religious observances. He spoke to all Commanding Officers and the staff at the RHQ and later on joined an All Rank lunch.
 
Colonel Commandant expressed his gratitude to all past gunners who elevated the Regiment to the current standards in her 126 years of history and urged all officers and men to be the custodians of the great inherited tradition of the Gunner Tribe.
 
 He also called upon all members to respect the duties, expected of by the Regiment, Army and the Nation and work towards the success of the Regiment, the Army and their own personal lives.
 
Major General Perera is also the Commander, Security Force Headquarters-East.
