Brigadier Subhashana Welikala of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment assumed duties as the 9th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 54 Division in Mannar under the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni on Monday (23).
The newly-appointed General Officer Commanding was greeted to a Guard Turnout honour on his arrival at the main entrance, plus a Guard of Honour parade afterwards in order to mark the memorable event. The new General Officer Commanding also planted a sapling in the Division Headquarters premises and added memories. In his new office, he signified the acceptance of office by signing a formal document to that effect.
Subsequently, he addressed a cross section of the troops performing duties in the 54 Division before he joined an all rank tea table.
