Colonel Priyantha Kariyawasam of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) assumed duties as the 7th Commander of the 221 Brigade amid religious observances on Thursday (21) during a simple ceremony at the Brigade Headquarters at Trincomalee.
He succeeded Brigadier D.P.U Gunasekara who has been now appointed the Commander 142 Brigade. Colonel Kariyawasam was the Colonel Media at the Directorate of Media before the took over this new appointment.
A formal Guard Turnout at the entrance presented by 2 (Volunteer) Gajaba Regiment troops greeted him.
Afterwards, the newly-appointed Brigade Commander planted a sapling as memory in the compound before he joined an all rank tea.
