Nearly 100 More All Ranks in the Army Learn about IHL & HR

The International Humanitarian Law & Human Rights (IHL & HR) Advanced Refresher Course No - 22 and IHL & HR Basic Instructor Course No - 26, organized by the Army Directorate of Humanitarian Law & Human Rights got underway for both Officers and Other Rankers at Institute of Peacekeeping Support Operations Training Sri Lanka (IPSOT-SL) at Kukuleganga during 10 June - 18 July.

Organized on the guidelines and supervision of Brigadier A.G.D.N Jayasundara, Director, IHL & HR, the Basic Instructor Course - No 26, attended by 16 Officers and 35 Other Ranks continued for two weeks (10 - 27 June).

The Advanced Refresher Course No - 22 attended by 10 Officers and 35 Other Ranks got under way at Kukuleganga during 1 - 19 July.

The Army, expecting to raise awareness on International Humanitarian Law & Human Rights among all ranks is holding those courses on the instructions of the Commander of the Army with a view to highlighting the importance of these aspects during discharge of their duties both here and abroad.

Lecturers from the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka, University of Colombo (Law Faculty), Women’s & Child Bureau of Sri Lanka, University of Kelaniya and a legal professional from Colombo delivered lectures related to the field of focus.

The course selected Probation Officer S.M.S.N Senanayake of 11 Corps of Engineer Services as the Best Officer and Warrant Officer II, H.M.A.S Dissanayake of 9 Sri Lanka Artillery as the Best Other Ranker.
