The routine Media interaction at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) at Rajagiriya took place this afternoon (10), headed by Mrs Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Hon Minister of Health, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Attorney-at Law Ajith Rohana, Deputy Inspector General of Police and Medical Specialist Dr Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services.
"Puttalam area- based 59 persons who violated quarantine rules and health guidelines and 27 more individuals who had close contact with two COVID-19 patients in Chilaw area, altogether 86 persons were admitted to the Army-run Katukeliyawa Quarantine Centre (QC) last night itself. Likewise, a total of 10 relatives from Wellampitiya and Kurunegala areas who had been in close contact with another COVID-19 positive victim were taken to Punani QC last evening (9). Similarly, 10 individuals from Akkaraipattu area who have had close contact with a COVID-19 patient were taken to Damminna QC for quarantining," Head of NOCPCO said.
"In the same way, 4 persons from Badulla area who had arrived in Sri Lanka on 8th March from Indonesia after attending a religious assignment were once again referred to Kahgolla QC for further quarantining last night (9) after completion of their basic 14 -day quarantining process. In addition, 8 more persons from Matale area, suspected to have been in contact with a few COVID-19 patients were taken to Kahagolla QC. As of now, 1455 persons are still in quarantine in 12 island-wide QCs, manned by tri services,” so remarked Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva.
"23 individuals who were recently kept in self quarantine at their homes after detection of a COVID-19 patient from Ja-Ela area were found by Navy intelligence that they all were violating those quarantine and health rules. Accordingly, the Police with the support of Naval troops arrested them and were taken to eastern province-based Oluvil QC for quarantining. During yesterday and today, four disinfection chambers, produced by Navy troops were gifted to Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa, Maharagama Apeksha Hospital, Colombo National Hospital and Teldeniya District Hospital," Lieutenant General Silva added.
