Navy & Air Force Provide Assistance to Ill-fated Oil Tanker - Chief of Defence Staff

As of this evening (3), information reached Colombo that a vessel sailing in the seas, about 31 nautical miles off Sri Lanka and was needing urgent assistance because of a sudden fire that had erupted in their engine room.

Initial reports said that the fire would have been created either due to a technical fault or a minor blast inside the vessel. As of now, the affected vessel is anchored in the Sri Lankan waters due to the incident under the surveillance of Sri Lanka Navy sailors and Air Force personnel.

Except for the Captain and another person, all staff aboard were evacuated from the vessel by Sri Lankan sailors. One of the injured ship crew was being taken for treatment by the Navy for admission to the hospital.
