\'Navodya\' Team Attends to Jaffna Social Development

PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTORATE of Social development keen regarding Social Development work in Jaffna peninsula dispatched a team of medical representatives comprising consultants and doctors, engaged in island-wide social development work. Sri Lanka Institute of Standards- \'Navodya\'- organizing this service conducted public medical campaigns and consultation sessions recently in different locations in the peninsula.

Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna ( SFHQ - J) coordinating their campaign and their overnight stay in Jaffna facilitated their visits to Pasiyur, Kollombuthurai, Gurunagar fisheries communities and villages such as Ichchamotai, Koiyathottam and Valapuram where they provided medical consultations and exchanged other social matters of importance to the civilians.

The Navodya movement was founded after LTTE\'s Kebithigollawa massacre of innocent passengers in 2006 and initiated many programs aimed at social development and health care. Special attention was focused on post effects of LTTE violence and atrocities.

\'Navodya\' team conducted the two-day medical clinic at St, Anthony\'s Primary School in Kollombuthurai, ably supported by Chairman, St, Anthony\'s Fishing community, Principal, St Joseph College and the Chief Priest of the St, Anthony cathedral and treated over 1500 down-trodden masses. Many school children were among those who were examined and provided necessary medical and other care.

In addition the team conducted a workshop on Disaster Management, Life Skill Training and Stress management. They also shared their experiences with troops and provided necessary counseling for them at Security Forces Headquarters in Jaffna.
