NAITA Using Army Skills Wants ‘Prime Mover Operators’ be Given ‘Disciplined’ Training

The National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) of Sri Lanka, aimed at opening up overseas vistas for youngsters, interested in receiving training in heavy machinery and equipment operation and related skills seeks Army assistance for such training in the NAITA-initiated new ‘Prime Mover Operators’ Course’ that matches the NVQ Level - 4.

A productive discussion to that effect ensued this morning (14 August) at the Commander’s office between the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu and a team of NAITA officials, led by Mr W Ruchira Amarasekara, Chairman NAITA.

NAITA officials during the meeting sought the training of those personnel at the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps Training School in Tisawewa, Anuradhapura as the final segment of the newly-designed six-month-long ‘Prime Mover Operators’ Course’ - NVQ Level 4 for forty students. The Army training at Tisawewa would cover 47 days with the support of Army instructors before they finally qualify for the NVQ Level - 4.

NAITA officials underscoring the importance of giving the training to make a ‘disciplined’ driver through the Army for prime mover machinery operators pointed out enormous opportunities, now available in the foreign markets for such skilled training which could in turn earn much-needed foreign exchange to the country.

The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage thanking the NAITA for the initiative assured them of the full support for this foreign job market-oriented project and agreed to facilitate the final segment of the course at the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps Training School in Tisawewa, Anuradhapura as planned and designed by the NAITA.
