Troops of the Security Force HQ - Mullaittivu engaged in emergency support when the cyclone 'Burevi' that swept across Alampil South during 2-3 December assisted civil authorities assisted them in various means on the directions of Major General Jagath Rathnayake, Commander Security Forces Mullaittivu with the coordination done by General Officers Commanding in under command Divisions.
24 Sri Lanka Sinha regiment troops serving the 59 Division cleared the roads in Alampil south where movements came to a standstill after trees fell on the roads. They also cleared the road running from Mullaittivu to Kokilai which remained obstructed after trees fell.
Meanwhile, 17 (V) Gajaba Regiment troops of the 642 Brigade and 64 Division also cleared the road from Nedunkerni to Mulliyaweli by removing fallen trees.
Similarly, 6 Sri Lanka National Guard troops of the 68 Division cleared the Mullaittivu to Puthukuddirippu road by removing fallen trees.
Meanwhile, troops of the 591 Brigade assisted a family to repair a damaged roof of a house in Uppamaweli due to cyclone. Troops at first evacuated them to a safe place, did the repairs and provided dry rations.
At the onset of the cyclonic weather, troops of the 593 Brigade took steps to move 123 families of 489 members to safe places in Kokilai West and East with the assistance of 19 Gemunu Watch troops and officials of the Maritimepattu Divisional Secretariat.
Meanwhile all battalions were on standby to respond to any emergency requirement in the area.
